Increasingly, meditation is being prescribed by doctors as a means of managing an expanding range of health problems
including chronic pain, blood pressure, angina, asthma, insomnia and stress. Practiced correctly, meditation can be
safer than medication - a simple way to balance a person's physical, emotional, and mental states. It can be of benefit
to everybody.
Meditation is not just for yoga masters sitting cross-legged on mountaintops in the Himalayas. Research shows meditation
can help relieve many symptoms, such as chronic pain, anxiety, stress and depression, as well as the day-to-day "static"
that robs us of inner peace.
The use of Meditation for healing is not new. The value of Meditation to alleviate suffering and promote healing has been known and
practiced for thousands of years. Today, meditation is widely accepted as an adjunct therapy and is taught and practiced in many hospitals
and medical centres throughout the world. Meditation is one of the better-studied complementary therapies, and it has been shown to provide
a wide range of health benefits.
"There is increasing evidence that meditation is a useful and, for some people, a powerful therapy"
Dr Adrian White, University of Exeter
